Mesh networking is increasingly being accepted as a component in Advanced Metering Infrastructure, where Energy meters use low power radios to transmit energy consumption details. The low power radios on the meters further serve as routers of the neighbor’s data packet, sending the packet along towards the destination, which could be a data concentrator located few hops away.
Melange Systems offers TarangMesh for application developers, system integrators and energy
meter companies – a proprietary protocol that not only betters ZigBee on many metrics, but
delivers significant benefits over many other Mesh implementations.
Mesh Networking
TarangMesh provides for a flexible mesh network which scales very well for a large number of
nodes. The centre of the TarangMesh network is the root node. All mesh related
configuration needs to be input at the root node and no configuration is required in any other
router nodes.
The root is characterized by its address which is set to 0x00000001.
In TarangMesh, the central unit is called the Root and all other devices are either Routers or
End Devices. Any device can be configured as a Root/Router/End Device
